Gate’s Fort is one of the oldest forts in Bermuda and was shown in the first survey map of the island created in 1626. It’s location at the tip of St. George’s allows a vantage point of the Eastern Cut, the only entrance to the island for visiting ships, and the Town Cut, the main passage into St. George’s Harbour.
It’s not a large fort by any any means, but the views from the roof of one of the few buildings is a perfect spot to watch the marine traffic. The cliffs at the end of the fort allow you to stand right on the edge of the ocean where you will get to enjoy some of Bermuda’s marine life from Parrot Fish and west Indian Top Shells to a crab or two if you’re lucky
